A MONEY-SAVVY homeowner has shared their delight after buying a highly coveted kitchen appliance for a bargain. They shared how they easily revamped the thrift store-bought item to look as good as new. The shopper took to Reddit’s Thrift Store Hauls forum to post a photo of their new green kettle.
Writing under the name Wolfwalker9 , they revealed it cost just $5 and required a “little elbow grease” to get it sparkling. “Loved the color when I saw it on the shelf & flipped it over to see it was Le Creuset,” they wrote. “This teapot originally retailed for $114, so definitely the fanciest teapot I’ve ever owned.
“A boil with vinegar got rid of interior scale buildup & some degreaser & scrubbing cleared away grime built up on the bottom & sides.” The kettle appeared to have no scratches or marks in the photo. In a follow-up comment, the Redditor revealed how they achieved the shiny finish.
“A little bit of Comet made into a paste with a soft cloth,” they wrote. “I didn’t use anything too abrasive or harsh as I didn’t want to scratch the enamel.” An almost identical Le Creuset kettle in dark green can be found at QVC for $75.
The kettle can be used to boil water for hot drinks such as tea and coffee, as well as to make soup. Many people up-voted the Redditor’s post and shared their amazement at the condition of the budget-friendly purchase. “Aw I love the color! it literally looks brand new!” one person wrote.
