Ford has started informing its franchise dealerships to stop all investments in its electric vehicle certification program until a meeting in June providing clarification on the initiative. The Michigan-based automaker spoke with around 1,000 different dealerships to receive feedback on rapid changes to the car market and strengthen communication during the industry’s transition into electrification . Ford’s electric vehicle (EV) certification program is designed to prepare and equip its dealership network for the increasing demand for electric cars.

This infrastructure can include high-capacity chargers, establishing EV-dedicated service areas, and verifying dealerships have enough electrical capacity. However, lower EV market demand will naturally result in financial strain for Ford EV certification program investments.



Andrew Frick, Ford Blue President, said: “We don’t want them to make any decisions between now and the middle of June when you can maybe have a more informed decision-making process based off what we work out with council in the next few weeks,” Teslarati reports.
