With the wave of England football enthusiasts rushing to Germany for the Euro 2024 final, airlines are racing to add extra flights to their schedules. British Airways has confirmed that it will add two more flights from Heathrow to Berlin this Sunday, the day England faces Spain at 8pm BST. The airline has announced that the additional flights would bump up the the carrier's seat availability by "nearly 30%".
More flights back home have been scheduled for Monday for fans' return, whether they are heading home with 'football' or just slightly depressing hangovers. Interest in travel to Berlin soared post England's triumph over Netherlands on Wednesday in the semi-final, with the demand peaking 11 minutes after the match ended at 10.05 pm.
Ryanair is also stepping up services, with plans to run two extra return flights from Stansted to Berlin. The flights will depart on Sunday and return on Monday. Jade Kirwan, the head of communications at Ryanair, said :"To facilitate the unprecedented demand from England fans looking to cheer on the Three Lions in Berlin this Sunday, we've added over 1,500 extra seats between London Stansted and Berlin.
" She warned the anticipated rapid sale of these extra flight seats and urged fans to book theirs at haste from ryanair.com. A Thursday analysis by the PA news agency revealed that many flights were sold out, with fares for remaining seats soaring five times the usual rates, toward the game compared to a week late trip.
