Emmerdale: Lydia tells Sam she is leaving Emmerdale 's James Hooton has opened up about his future on the ITV soap. The actor appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday (June 10) alongside his on-screen son Sam Hall, who plays Samson Dingle and the pair opened up about their gripping new storyline. Host Christine Lampard quizzed James, who made his debut as Sam back in 1995, on his future and the soap legend simply replied: "As long as they'll have me I'll stay there.

" James has been at the centre of some of the ITV serial drama's most dramatic plots over the past three decades and he's set for a huge "first".
