Danny Dyer has set the record straight regarding his EastEnders character, confirming that Mick Carter is indeed deceased, but he teased the possibility of a return to the iconic soap. The 46-year-old actor, who bid farewell to the BBC One series in 2022 after a nine-year stint, saw his character dramatically disappear at sea during the Christmas storyline. Since then viewers have been left pondering Mick's fate but Danny has now clarified that his on-screen persona has perished.

Speaking to Heat magazine he disclosed: "Everyone is asking when I'm going back to EastEnders, which is very interesting to me. But he's dead!" Nonetheless Danny hinted that death might not be the end for Mick on EastEnders. The star of Football Factory suggested that Mick could make an appearance in his on-screen wife Linda Carter's (played by Kellie Bright) dreams or hallucinations, especially with the show's 40th anniversary looming in February.

Who knows? If there's no closure there then maybe I would come back for a dream sequence. I don't think Mick could just rock up covered in seaweed.

I think if they did it right, with the 40th anniversary coming up, if they came up with an idea of maybe Linda drunk or hallucinating then I would come.
