New research has revealed that Tesla owners have the road’s cleanest cars, with an average wash rate of over twice a week or 130 annual washes. While auto industry professionals generally recommend motorists clean their vehicles every two weeks, the study found that 22% of all drivers wash their cars once a month. Honda and BMW trailed Tesla for the road’s cleanest car brands, with both receiving an average of 52 washes per year, according to Scrap Car Comparison.

The second-most popular car wash method was 27 percent of respondents practicing interior and exterior cleaning at a hand car wash in areas like gas stations. Slightly under 20 percent of survey participants reported limiting car washes to instances where they notice an exterior defect, like dirt.
