Doctor Who fans were left outraged after the sixth episode saw the iconic Time Lord and his side-kick Ruby enter the year of 1813. Dressed in attire of that particular era, both characters are seen wearing clothes reminiscent of characters from Bridgerton. And references were also made to the historical drama.

And if the comments from fans are anything to go by, this left a number of viewers distracted from the main plot. Taking to social media, one person wrote: "And this is why I don't watch Bridgerton or read any Jane Eyre or Bronte stuff. Can't stand tortuous corsetted c**p! #doctorwho.

" Another person said: "Have we gone back to bridgerton, is this still doctor who ? #DoctorWho." A third person jumped in to give their opinion and said: "I’ve never watched Bridgerton so I’m afraid all the numerous name checks and allusions are a bit lost on me." Meanwhile a fourth added: "I'm really liking the new series but I kinda miss the dark intense episodes like twelve's widower arc or ten's crisis.

hope we get to see more of that in the next series." However not everyone shared the sentiment made by some as a large portion of viewers felt it was one of the best episodes to date. One fan said: "Absolutely loved today's #DoctorWho episode.

Ncuti Gatwa was born to play the Doctor. Jonathan Groff..

. well. I would have said yes on the spot.

Brilliant writing by Kate Herron and Briony Redman. More of this please." While another added: "Best Doctor Who episode ever!" And a third echoe.
