Dan Walker has paid an emotional tribute to his “inspirational” friend and former rugby league star Rob Burrow. The ex-Leeds Rhinos player, 41, passed away over the weekend, just four years after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). Rob, who is survived by his wife Lindsey and children Macy, Maya and Jackson, spent his whole rugby league career with Leeds Rhinos and helped them win a staggering eight Super League titles.
Dan developed a close friendship with the former sports star when he interviewed him when he was a presenter on BBC Breakfast, and after news of Rob’s sad death broke, the 5 News took to social media to share a heartbreaking tribute to his pal. “He was the little fella who made a massive impact on the pitch and an even bigger one off it,” Dan began in a post on Twitter /X. Sending all my love to Lindsey and their kids, his sisters, his mum and dad and all those who will miss him so much,” he added. Dan teamed up with Rob over the years to help raise awareness of MND, and in April, he presented a special Strictly Come Dancing-themed ball, alongside former BBC Breakfast.
