During his time presenting BBC Breakfast Dan Walker became firm friends with Tony Foulds, a pensioner who won over the hearts of viewers and who Dan now supports in looking after a war memorial in Sheffield. Now Dan has given a moving update on Tony who was left "devastated" after a crime. Tony's tools, which he uses to maintain the war memorial, were stolen and in an Instagram post Dan explained that Tony was "devastated".
Dan said: "Just spoken to Tony. He is devastated that someone has stolen his leaf blower, batteries and tools from the park. I've managed to calm him down but if anyone has any information or knows anything.
.. he just wants them back so he can carry on looking after the memorial.
" Many, including Screwfix, commented on the post offering to help Tony replace the tools and Dan later gave an update saying he had chosen the DIY chain as they had offered help first. He said: "I spoke to Tony this morning, he was emotional, even more emotional tonight when I told him about the response. He is so thankful and really touched by all the kindness that he has seen today and he is absolutely delighted he is able to get back to doing what he loves which is looking after the war memorial.
