As something of a surprise hit revealed during the Xbox Game Showcase, the upcoming RPG is Sandfall Interactive’s debut game. While we only got to see a reveal trailer for Clair Obscur Expedition 33, we were given a release window scheduling it for next year. This turn-based game is reportedly inspired by the lavish art and culture of France’s Belle Époque.

In the world of Expedition 33, characters only live to a certain age that is pre-determined by an entity called the Paintress. Once a year, she wakes and paints a number on a monolith to represent an age. When someone reaches this age, they are wiped from existence.

From this, our heroes set out to stop the Paintress. On this journey, you’ll explore a fantasy world, take place in dynamic turn-based combat, and grow closer to.
