Chip Gaines is acknowledging wife Joanna Gaines' patience when it comes to his quirky funny bone. Ahead of the couple's new show, "Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse," premiering June 2, Chip and Joanna Gaines are reflecting on their relationship as they mark multiple milestones: 10 years since “Fixer Upper” launched and 21 years of marriage. In an interview with TODAY.

com, Chip Gaines teases that up until recently, he was under the impression that his wife was charmed by his joke-cracking ways. “Ten years ago, certainly 20 years ago, when we first started, I thought I was extremely charming. So I thought all of this was compelling.



I thought this was, like, a thing,” Chip Gaines says of his humor. “After 20 years, in fairness, I think (Joanna’s) just got a very high grace threshold,” he continues. Joanna Gaines then gives him some grace, saying his humor was one of the reasons she was drawn to him in the first place.

"The reason why I fell in love with him was he made me laugh," she tells TODAY.com. "I can be very serious, very, like, unemotional.

And so I think what I've loved the most is the way he draws that out of me. "So I think you're pretty funny," she turns to tell her husband, to which he says, "Well, thanks."
