CHICAGO Med's Dominic Rains has exited the medical drama after the series' shocking Season 9 finale. Rains, 42, joined the NBC series during its fifth season as Dr. Crockett Marcel in a recurring role before becoming a series regular.

The emergency room surgeon will be leaving the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center for the foreseeable future as Dominic Rains is departing the show, as reported by Deadline . While it's still unknown if the Agents of S.H.

D. actor will reprise the character in a guest capacity in the upcoming 10th season, it was the Season 9 finale of Chicago Med which set up the exit for Rains' Crockett. In the final episode of the season, Crockett was told by Sharon Goodwin (S.

Epatha Merkerson) to take all the time he needs following the deaths of one of his patients, a child, and the boy’s father. The boy died after Crockett canceled his planned liver transplant due to an infection, ignoring the father’s pleas to proceed with the surgery to save his son's life. Following the boy’s death, the father, heartbroken over the loss of his son, took his own life.

News of the boy's death, along with the boy's father, disturbed Crockett as it dredged up memories of losing his baby daughter to leukemia. Chicago Med, which follows the day-to-day chaos of the city’s newest state-of-the-art trauma center and the lives of its doctors, nurses, and staff, is undergoing a major transition heading into next fall. Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider are step.
