Channel 4 bosses have made a list of channels due for closure and viewers will only have a handful of weeks to enjoy their last minutes on the air. The broadcaster revealed its plans to cut 200 jobs at the start of the year in its attempt to become a "digital-first" streaming service by 2030. A spokesperson for the group has confirmed the news that it will shut down a handful of its digital channels by the end of June, 2024.
Owned by the firm, The Box music channels will stop broadcasting with the hitlist including 4Music, The Box, Kiss, Magic and Kerrang! The move follows the axing of several shows in the likes of survival series Alone and Danny Dyer-fronted program Scared of the Dark. The Box channels were launched back in 1992 to compete with American cable giant MTV. Speaking to The Sun , the spokesperson explained the decision was made as the channels failed "to deliver meaningful return on investment.
" "As we announced earlier this year as part of Channel 4 ’s digital-first Fast Forward strategy, we will be closing our Box network of channels from 1 July across all platforms - as they are no longer of sufficient scale to deliver meaningful return on investment." They added: "Our strategy reflects the generational shift in TV viewing and involves reducing costs – particularly in linear activities - to allow us to invest in digital priorities and stay competitive in a world of global entertainment conglomerates and social media giants." Cost-saving cuts have had an im.
