The first cast photos have been released by Netflix for “The Abandons,” the upcoming western series that hails from “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter and which has begun shooting in the Canadian city of Calgary. Gillian Anderson, Lena Headey, Lucas Till and Nick Robinson are among the cast of the show which unfolds in 1850s Oregon and follows a group of diverse outlier families seeking their manifest destiny These abandoned souls, living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back against corrupt forces of wealth and power who covets their land. The series will explore that bloody process, the fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets.
Also starring are Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Natalia del Riego, Aisling Franciosi, Toby Hemingway, Michael Greyeyes, Ryan Hurst, Katelyn Wells, Clayton Cardenas, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, Brían F. O’Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Michael Ornstein, Jonathan Koensgen, Jack Doolan, Haig Sutherland, Sarah White, Patton Oswalt and Michiel Huisman. Sutter is set as showrunner and executive producer for the series.
The project marks Sutter’s first series for a streaming platform and his first project outside of FX. Otto Bathurst will direct the first episode and executive produce, whilst Stephen Surjik and Emmy Grinwis will also executive produce. Lena Headey, Gillian Anderson, and the entire cast of The Abandons.
