The company, which boasts millions of customers across the UK, has become a popular target for cyber criminals looking to seek out their next victims. These crooks are doing just that by sending fake emails that ask for money that is owed on "unpaid bills" or accounts they claim aren't "up to date".



The latest con sees hackers using a new technique to steal personal data through a tempting message that suggests users of the supplier can get a quote or a free visit from an engineer to check their boiler. As such, people are being urged to know the difference between a legitimate email sent from British Gas and messages from a scammer - and the answer lies in the sender's email address. The latest threat - which has been discovered by Andrew Brown, Software Security Expert at Propel Tech , looks official with logos and font all looking as if it's been sent by British Gas.
