The gritty series, entitled Jane Smith, is set to be worlds away from the colourful world of Bridget Jones. The legal thriller will see Renée, 55, star as the titular defence attorney, who lives in the Hamptons and is described as "brilliant, tough and darkly funny".
The series on Max is based on James Patterson and Mike Lupica’s bestselling novel 12 Months to Live. Jane Smith follows the story of an ambitious lawyer whose life is suddenly turned upside down when she is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour the day before the biggest case of her career. The official synopsis continues: "While the investigation becomes more dangerous and deeply personal, Jane refuses to let her death sentence stop her from solving this case.
