Motherland actress Anna Maxwell Martin has left fans devastated after revealing that her iconic character in the hit comedy series will not be appearing in the spin-off show. The 47 year old star became a fan favourite playing Julia in the BBC comedy series which tells the story of middle-class motherhood. Recently, it was confirmed that the BBC will not be renewing Motherland after eight years, and will instead be launching a spin-off show, titled Amandaland.

The new spin-off series will focus on snobby Amanda played by Lucy Punch as she is forced to get used to a different social circle at her children's new school following her divorce. And unfortunately, Julia will not be making an appearance. When asked by The One Show's Alex Jones if a cameo appearance is on the cards, she replied: "No, I don’t think Julia or Kevin or Liz are popping in.

" Anna also ruled out a cameo from Paul Ready, who played Julia's unmotivated husband. Anna added: "But I’ll be really happy to see those two because I really love them and I think they are so brilliant as well. Phil and Lucy are brilliant comediennes and brilliant actresses so yeah, it’s good.
