D-Day: King Charles gives speech at 80th anniversary memorial event BBC viewers were left emotional after watching a special programme to commemorate 80 years since Allied forces began the liberation of Europe. Events to commemorate the D-Day operation took place today in Portsmouth and Normandy. As part of a spectacular two-day tribute, the BBC aired a programme about the veterans who took part in the largest amphibious invasion in history.

During the programme, the fallen were also remembered and many viewers were left in tears. One person said on X: " BBC doing what it does best. The production values for this TV event really impressive.
