BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood tells Jon Kay 'let's leave it at that' Britain has been battered by rain and unseasonably chilly temperatures this month, with the lead-up to summer looking to be a wash-out. BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay seemed optimistic when Carol Kirkwood analysed the weather on BBC Breakfast this morning - but she quickly shut down any hopes he had of guaranteed sunshine. The temperature is set to steadily rise, reaching highs of 23C in London towards the end of the weekend, followed by 24C on Monday and Tuesday.

Later into next week, temperatures are estimated to rise to more than 25C in Britain - and Jon was a little over-optimistic this morning about the news. Participating in Carol's announcement of the good news, Jon marvelled: "I mean that looks lovely, doesn't it?" He continued: "Perfect for lots of people", before quizzing: "Does this look like it's the beginning of a prolonged dryer spell?" Ever-cautious Carol shot back: "Not necessarily" after an awkward moment of silence - and then burst out laughing, which broke the ice. Making it clear he could be in for a big disappointment, she quipped: "Let's leave it at that for now, shall we?" "Service with a smile.

I'll take that as an absolute 'no it's not'," Jon exclaimed in reply. The show continued after Carol's bleak weather assessment, covering topics such as inflation.
