Anne Robinson has revealed she's given away her fortune to save it from going to the taxman when she dies. The broadcaster, 79, is thought to have amassed an impressive £50 million from her decades of work. She said she's "given it away" to her daughter and grandchildren to avoid hefty tax.
Anne has shared that she's "spread" her money to save her family from having to pay tax when she dies. The standard Inheritance Tax rate is 40% over the value of £325,000 but there are some exceptions. The government website states some gifts given while the person is alive may be taxed after their death.
Depending on when it was given, ‘taper relief’ might mean the Inheritance Tax charged on the gift is less than 40%. Anne is a mother to Emma Wilson, 43, from her marriage to Charles Wilson. She has two grandchildren - Hudson, 14, and Parker, 13.
Anne revealed to Saga magazine: "I've given it all away. I don't want the taxman to have it. I've spread it about quite a lot, to the children.
They may as well enjoy it now." The former Countdown host admitted she has "genuinely no idea" if she is worth £50 million. She insisted she doesn't "want for much" and "can't think there's anything I really want except my good health and the family happiness".
Anne lives in a Grade II-listed, converted 18th-century Cotswolds barn and is also the owner of two homes in New York. She has one on expensive shopping street Fifth Avenue as well as affluent The Hamptons. Royal tailor loved by celebs launch.
