LeftField Media, the creators and organisers of Anime NYC, and the non-profit organisation Japan Society have announced the American Manga Awards. The inaugural edition will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2024, just before the New York anime convention. The awards ceremony will honour figures from Japan’s manga industry as well as American translators and publishers who bring manga to the West in English, thereby reaching other English-speaking markets like India.
Here are the eight award categories: A committee will select entrants for the Mangaka Hall of Fame and the Manga Publishing Hall of Fame. Best Translation, Best Lettering, and Best Publication Design categories will have two nominating judges recognised for their professional expertise. The nominees for Best New Manga, Best Continuing Manga Series, and Best New Edition of Classic Manga will be chosen by a committee of five experts such as journalists, librarians, and reviewers.
