ATLANTA, Ill. — A small town in Logan County, Illinois, will celebrate its newest tourist attraction in a big way this Memorial Day weekend. Grand opening festivities at the American Giants Museum, which opened nearly a year ago at 100 SW Arch St.

in Atlanta, Illinois, include the installation of a new Route 66-era statue — and another to come later this summer — along with food vendors and a visit by the museum's founder. "People are so excited to have all of this information and all of these artifacts and all of these giants in one spot where they can visit them and learn about their history," said Bill Thomas, treasurer of the Atlanta Betterment Fund and director of the Logan County Economic Development Council. "We look forward to improving as we get more giants.

m. Sunday, and the installation of a new giant on Friday. Another giant will be added later this summer.

The American Giants Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.

m. on Friday, 10 a.m.

to 1 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.

m. to 4 p.m.

on Sunday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.

m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.
