Nicholas Ralph, star of All Creatures Great and Small, has announced that filming for the fifth season has concluded. The actor, who portrays James Herriot in the beloved Channel 5 drama, shared the news on his Instagram Stories last week. He included a group selfie featuring co-stars Rachel Shenton, Samuel West, Anna Madeley, and Callum Woodhouse at a celebratory meal, Nicholas wrote: "S5 wrapped.

" The forthcoming series, expected to air in autumn, will comprise of six episodes and include a festive special. Although an official synopsis is yet to be unveiled, Channel 5 assures viewers that the show will continue to "bring the stories of James Herriot to life as we return to Darrowby to rejoin our unconventional much loved Skeldale Family and the colourful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940s". Viewers can anticipate the "unexpected return later in the series" of Tristan Farnon.



The character, portrayed by Callum, departed Darrowby in the third season to serve in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. Naturally, Nicholas will return as James, joined by Rachel as Helen, Samuel as Siegfried, and Anna as Mrs Hall. Completing the main cast are James Anthony-Rose as student vet Richard Carmody and Patricia Hodge as the quirky widow Mrs Pumphrey.

While the series is based on author James Herriot's bestselling collection of stories, the cast previously shared their hopes for season five in an interview. Speaking to Hello, Anna explained: ".
