In 2021, Baldwin was allegedly holding the gun that discharged live rounds and fatally hit cinematographer Hutchins on the set of a Western film, Rust. He has vehemently denied knowing that there were live rounds in the gun or that he pulled the trigger. The judge in his trial ruled that Baldwin's role as a producer for the film is inadmissible, meaning it can't be brought up in court.



According to Los Angeles-based entertainment attorney Tre Lovell, this is a win for the actor. Lovell told The Mirror: "Alec Baldwin's team just scored a gargantuan win with the judge's ruling that evidence of his status as a producer is inadmissible. Before this ruling, Baldwin was vulnerable in terms of his producorial role and the alleged chaotic and unsafe environment on the set.

" "He faced allegations stemming from the production not following safety protocol for storing and collecting gun ammo; the failure to provide proper instructions on safety; rushing the crew and creating a reckless environment for the gun scenes; the negligent hiring of an inexperienced and young armorer; and for not allowing her to properly do her job," he continued.
