The Macuata Youth Council has elected its leaders, ones that they believe are proficient and smart individuals. Jitoko Vulava of Druadrua, Namaka was elected as the president for the council while Pita Baleibau of Ligaulevu, Mali was elected as the vice-president. They were elected after the two-days youth forum that was held at the Khatriya Hall in Labasa.
Mr Baleibau said he didn’t expect to get selected by other members as the vice-president. “I know with leadership positions comes great responsibilities,” he said. He said during their tenure they hope to address some of the challenges faced in Macuata.
“We will be the voice of the voiceless. “We will be making a lot of noise to make sure that the Government hears our voice.” He said the two-days forum had provided the youth with a platform to mobilise and advocate for change.
“It was a useful two-days of training, and I can’t wait to go back to start working with the youth of Mali.” The Forum was funded by WWF-Australia’s Gender Equity Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) program with support from the Climate Resilient by Nature – an Australian Government initiative..
