After Dario G’s death aged 53 , fellow 90s legend Sonique has revealed a devastating conversation she had with her friend and collaborator. Dario G, real name Paul Spencer, had been diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer in June last year. The music icon was best known for his hits like Sunchyme and Carnaval de Paris , dominating the dance scene in the 90s.
His family broke the news on Monday, June 17, sharing that Spencer had ‘remained positive until the end’ and left behind a ‘wonderful music legacy’. After paying tribute on his Instagram , Sonique told Metro.co.
uk she had spoken to her friend just three weeks before his death. ‘A couple of tears did have to drop out but I knew what was happening,’ the It Feels So Good singer revealed. ‘We were close enough that I spoke to him about three weeks ago,’ the 53-year-old artist continued.
‘He did ask me “Don’t tell anyone” and he said, “You know, it’s bad”. ‘So I knew, but I promised him that I wasn’t going to tell anyone. I was almost prepared for that to happen but it was difficult.
‘That was the saddest [memory].’ The pair collaborated on a song in 2021 called Keep On Lovin’ which urges listeners to embrace positivity and to reach out to each other. Over the years their musical talents meant the duo were constantly crossing paths and formed a professional friendship.
Sonique called them ‘geeks in fancy clothing’, sharing how she bonded with Spencer over their deep appreciation of.
