Drasa Avenue Primary School proudly rewarded their 29 swimmers who clinched first place in the Primary School Division during the 2024 National Schools’ Swimming Age Group Championship held in Suva this month. This historic achievement marks the first time a school from Lautoka has won a national swimming competition. In the combined results, which included both primary and secondary schools, the Drasa Dolphers swim team delivered an impressive performance.
The boys’ division team finished third overall, while the girls’ division team secured second place in the medal tally. Marist Brothers High School topped the boys’ division medal tally with 26 gold, 15 silver, and eigth bronze medals. Swami Vivekananda College followed in second place with 18 gold, 17 silver, and six bronze medals.
Drasa Primary secured third place with seven gold, six silver, and three bronze medals. In the girls’ division, Drasa Avenue Primary School finished in second place with 10 gold, nine silver, and four bronze medals. They followed St.
Joseph’s Secondary School, which led the table with 28 gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals. Year eight student, Iliesa Tuilevuka was part of the U13 boys’ team and won a silver in the 50m back stroke, a silver in the 50m butterfly and a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle. “I’m happy with my three medals and my aim is to be a professional swimmer,” Tuilevuka said.
Another successful swimmer, Year 6 student Miriena Elliot was part of the U11 .
