Auburn High School senior Emerson Brown has been named the 2024 recipient of the Ruth and Charles B. Goldman Memorial Scholarship. The daughter of Beth Brown Saville and Joseph Saville, Emerson will receive $1,000 toward her first year of college at Penn State University.
Emerson was recognized for her advocacy in front of the New York State Legislature, asking it to address funding inequities that affect Auburn's public schools. She has also been the student representative on the district's board of education this school year. Endorsing Emerson for the scholarship, board Vice President Danielle Wood said, "She comes prepared with a smile and provides the board with updates on the past and upcoming events at Auburn High School.
She continues to impress me with her maturity, outstanding work ethic, and all of the sports and extracurricular activities she juggles.” The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Auburnians, is designated for graduating seniors at Auburn High who have demonstrated a significant interest in the public affairs of the community, the nation and/or the world. This is the 17th year of the annual award.
It is funded by family members and friends of Ruth and Charles Goldman. Get local news delivered to your inbox!.
