An ice cream company has voluntarily recalled one of its products over the potential contamination by “foreign objects.” Casper’s Ice Cream Inc., based in Utah, has recalled more than 13,000 that were discovered to contain rubber fragments.

The company first issued the recall in June, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has now updated it .

There are three levels of recall classifications. Class I is the highest risk and is issued when there is “reasonable probability” that exposure to the product could result in adverse health. Class II indicates a medium risk, while Class III is the least serious risk.

The recalled ice cream was: It was distributed in eight U.S. states: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.

Hard foreign objects in food can cause injury like lacerations in the mouth, tongue, throat, stomach and intestines, a well as damage to teeth and gums, the FDA reports. Objects less than 7mm, however, "rarely cause trauma or serious injury except in special risk groups such as infants, surgery patients, and the elderly." Those who have purchased the recalled ice cream are encouraged to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
