It's easy to forget that Buffalo is, really, a coastal town. Memorial Day weekend, with its extra day of leisure and reputation for kicking off summer, is a prime time to remember. Here's a reason to head to the water: A new food truck and beach bar on the sandy Silver Creek shores is opening this holiday weekend at the newly constructed Hideaway Bay Resort.
The luxury lakeside resort (42 Lake Ave., Silver Creek) is holding a "sneak peek" for the public with beach bonfires and live music, from noon to 10 p.m.
from May 25 through 27. Kevin Cullen and his wife, Christian Edie, are opening the beach kitchen and bar at Hideaway Bay Resort in Silver Creek, over Memorial Day Weekend. The full resort is expected to open in June and includes the sit-down Drift Restaurant, a modern, two-story, sandy-colored dining room with high ceilings and a long bar.
However, the beach bar and food truck, called Drift Beach Bar and Drift Beach Kitchen, will be open. There will also be cabanas, daybeds and chairs and umbrellas along the beach on a first-come, first-served basis, free of cost. In the future, guests will need to pay to rent them and can reserve them in advance.
Chef David Wohlfeil, a former executive chef for Delaware North who ran his own fine dining restaurant in West Virginia for 17 years, is preparing a menu of light fare, such as lobster rolls, fish tacos, charcuterie and nachos for the food truck.
