The Dalmatia Hotel, a Riverside restaurant known for its long list of unusual wing flavors, has closed. Its last day of business was May 24, according to owner Theia Moyer. Flavors of Jean, a Tonawanda soul food and chicken and waffles restaurant, will move into the space at 1187 Tonawanda St.

, Moyer said. Moyer and her husband, Christopher, opened Dalmatia Hotel in 2016. Since Christopher's death in August 2022, it's been difficult to run the business in his absence, Moyer said.

A "perfect storm" of rising food prices, insurance costs, a desire to keep prices down and a need to spend more time with her young children led Moyer to close Dalmatia Hotel. Theia Moyer, owner of The Dalmatia Hotel, cited rising food costs as one of the reasons for closing. "We really loved serving the community and being a part of Riverside," Moyer said.

"We're sad that it was time to close, but sometimes change is good." Dalmatia Hotel was often mentioned as a must-try chicken wing spot in Buffalo, especially for some of its rare flavors, such as peanut butter and jelly and dry-rubbed lavender. Moyer is considering doing some Dalmatia Hotel pop-ups in the future and publishing a cookbook of the restaurant's cult-followed chicken wing recipes.

"I know there are a lot of Buffalonians who loved the recipes," Moyer said. Be the first to know Get local news delivered to your inbox! {{description}} Email notifications are only sent once a day, and only if there are new matching items..
