Nobody told me that when you set out to eat healthier that means you can't eat ice cream. That's just wrong. Seriously, I was getting a Whitey's milkshake basically bimonthly for the first six months I lived in the Quad-Cities.

Quad-City Times Reporter Gannon Hanevold But in April, the numbers on the scale told me I needed to fix something before it got out of hand. Thankfully, by a small amount I have. I've been following a regimen of intermittent fasting, cardio and (sigh) less craft beer.



Just a few nights ago, I took my girlfriend to get ice cream and had the fortitude to say no. It had been months since I had ice cream, I could handle waiting a little longer. It was no less than 24 hours later that the folks in the newsroom announced a group trip to Here's The Scoop in Davenport.

A bunch of journalists? At a place called Here's The Scoop? And I haven't tried it yet? Fine, twist my arm, I'll go. The S'Mores Sundae at Here's The Scoop costs $5.50.

When you have a sweet tooth but haven't had ice cream in months, everything looks good. But I figure I won't be having ice cream again for a long while, so I went in with the philosophy of go-big-or-go-home. Most often, for these columns, I aim for novelty.

And there is no shortage of outside-the-box ice cream flavors at Here's The Scoop. They've got goat cheese blueberry, strawberry rhubarb and peanut butter and jelly. I've heard murmurs about them once having a sweet corn flavor.
