CAPITAL REGION - Stewart’s Shops is teaming up with the American Red Cross of Eastern New York to encourage people to donate blood. Known as the Give a Pint, Get a Pint program, donors at blood drives in 26 counties with Stewart’s Shops locations will receive a voucher for a free pint of Stewart’s Shops ice cream or gelato. It runs through June.
To kick off the campaign Stewart's is dishing out free ice cream and photo opportunities with Flavor the Cow at the 33 Everett Road Red Cross Blood Donation Center in Albany from 11 a.m. to 1 p.
m. on Thursday, May 30. Teams will be on hand to register new donors.
“When summer hits, our blood donations typically slow down, yet the need for blood is constant. ‘Give A Pint, Get A Pint’ is a great way to remind people that their donation could save a life while getting thanked with the ultimate summer treat; ice cream,” said Kevin Coffey, regional CEO of American Red Cross, Eastern New York Region. Since its inception, the partnership has had over 80,000 donors present at area blood drive events and collected over 75,000 units of red cells, platelets and plasma.
“Our partnership with the Red Cross is so important because there is such a critical need for blood donors,” said Chad Kiesow, chief operating officer at Stewart’s Shops. “The more people we reward with a pint of ice cream for their pint donation, the better.” To donate, visit RedCrossBlood.
