You know the venue: It’s the one with the gazebo and the pond. Made to be a restaurant. There are water lilies in abundance now and party lights on the gazebo, which has its own bar.

It’s always been a great summer destination for a drink or a meal, and even on a very warm night there were people outside at the bar. I forgot how pleasant the building is, with all the light coming through the enormous windows, the high ceilings, and the view of the connecting gazebo and pond. Sofia’s of Clifton Park serves Italian food, though on its website it calls itself a gastropub.



It has a straight-up Italian menu and doesn’t feel like a pub; rather, it’s got white tablecloths. Whatever, it’s good. Let me tell you about it.

Opened in April, Sofia’s of Clifton Park is an outpost of Sofia’s of Little Italy, on Mulberry Street in New York City. The chef and the kitchen staff, from the original restaurant, are upstate residents now. The menus of the two restaurants are similar.

Mary and I were pleased to see the sunny dining room with its neatly dressed tables. “I like the color scheme,” said Mary, unrolling her coral pink napkin. The walls are white, the trim is that nice pink color.

There are murals I don’t remember from previous visits, and art is the focus in the main bar room, not the world’s largest television screen I’d previously seen there. Thank you. It’s fresh-looking, with tidy landscaping.
