AFTER some 25 years writing about wine, I have grudgingly decided to answer the question asked countless times: What is your favourite tipple? Depending on what time of the year it is, the food in front of me, the occasion, the company, or where I am, play an important part in what I choose to drink. The choice can easily be a white, a red, or even a Rosé. Something bubbly, or a fortified wine like Port, or Sherry! This is not meant to be a smart or evasive answer.

But I tend to remember or cherish a wine because it hit one, two or three of the significant factors above. What I do have so is a selection of wines that recall incredibly special meals, places, or particular company. They continue to, bring immense pleasure, vintage after vintage, and also represent immense value.

So today I bring you six white wines that have brought particular pleasure down the years – and usually made new friends quickly when introduced to the dinner table. And next week I will introduce you to the reds that have brought the same kind of joy and satisfaction over the past quarter of a century. So, in no particular order, here are (some of) the whites that enable me to recall some great moments, trips , meals or company.

I thoroughly recommend all of them...
