Staff at the spacious American fast food chain in Wembley Park Boulevard are smack opposite the famous Wembley arena, and a few steps from the National Stadium, which is about to be besieged by Taylor Swift Fans. Add in the recent Champions League final, and forthcoming gigs by Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, and AC/DC, and that's a whole tonne of burgers and shakes to serve to hungry music-lovers. For those not in the know, the brightly lit restaurants that are sprouting up all over London are spotlessly clean, with white and red check tiling, wooden tables and an open kitchen. Diners seeking an alternative can choose a beef hot dog, plain or with cheese or bacon but really it's the burgers, cooked fresh on site, that are the main draw. A double patty comes as standard and you can upgrade with bacon and cheese.
Also standard is a comprehensive range of 15 toppings including grilled mushrooms, grilled onions and pickles, alongside the usual range of sauces and salad items. The foil-wrapped burgers are juicy and substantial. I chose grilled onions with salad and burger relish, while my teenager went for hot sauce and jalapeno.
Five Guys 'boardwalk fries' are twice fried and salted and in famously generous portions. In keeping up the spicy theme, we went for the cajun fries dipped in mini cups of ketchup and mayo that you pump yourself .
