Mexican cuisine has always been popular because of its combination of ingredients, the dishes are fairly straight-forward and, most important, they're all very good. Nobody doesn't like Mexican. Lately we've been introduced to several Mexican specialties in Rochester.
There's Don Panchos bakery (1610 W. Center St.) and La Michoacana Purepecha ice cream (28 Ninth St.
SE.) Well, you can add Eddie's Rey de la Birria to that list. The restaurant that opened recently in what had been Prescotts.
Even before you walk in the door you are struck by a fiesta feel. You sense it by the colorful little curtains hanging inside the windows. Walk in and it's like you've entered a Mexican cantina.
Bright colors, a mural of a little village, things hanging from the ceiling, and mariachi music in the background. ADVERTISEMENT Greeting customers is Eddie Campos, the owner and a local restaurateur for at least 20 years. In addition to his newest venture, he owns Opa Opa, (1106 15th Ave.
SE) the Greek eatery and El Carambas, another Mexican spot at 1503 12th St. SE . He also had a food truck that he recently sold.
Those who frequented Prescotts will recognize a few things — the basic layout and the tables and chairs. Says Campos: "Everything was in such excellent shape and the serve ware top quality, I didn't want to let them go. It's my turn to use and enjoy them now.
" The menu has all the favorite Mexican specialties plus a few: burritos, enchiladas, chili rellenos and tacos in addition to sal.
