ROTTERDAM - Starting Thursday, The Palazzo Ristorante in Rotterdam is holding a soft opening. Located in the former Joe’s Pizza Place at 2780 Hamburg St., the space has been renovated to include a sizable patio, a bar lounge and a dining room.

It’ll offer a light-fare menu for the soft opening, including garlic herb bruschetta, battered zucchini blossoms, Napolitana panini, pizza, burgers and more. It’s also serving a variety of cocktails. “We're using these few weeks to critique it and then adjust as we need to,” said owner Joe Citone.

A grand opening is in the works for early July. Citone, who previously owned several Cusato’s locations, bought the former Joe’s Pizza in 2015, just a few years after it closed. He renovated the property, which also includes rental units, over the last few years.

When it comes to the menu, diners can expect a mix of Italian and American fare. “We’re taking pasta dishes from Northern Italy to South Sicily,” said Citone, who noted that his family is from Messina, Sicily. “We’re also going to have American dishes as well.

You got your basic steaks and your burgers and things along those lines. So this way, we have something for everyone.” Hours for the soft opening are 11 a.
