Paella has been voted the nation’s best loved holiday food of all time (36 percent), according to a poll of 2,000 Britons. The origins of Paella can be traced back to the nineteenth century, where it was originally made in the region of Valencia - and took its name from the wide, shallow pan it is usually made in, on an open fire . In fact, Spanish (32 percent) and Italian (58 percent) food emerged as the top holiday cuisines we try and recreate at home, according to the poll by Med deli brand, unearthed. Overall, 78 percent of those polled are having fewer holidays abroad, due to the increased cost of living – and are instead creating their favourite dishes from abroad, in their own kitchens. Traditional Mexican tacos (24 percent) came second on the list of dishes that remind us of our travels, while 23 percent enjoy a proper Italian carbonara (23 percent) – which if you are Italian should NEVER be made with cream.
A simple bowl of olives (22 percent), baked chorizo (22 percent), oozing Spanish tortilla (22 percent), a hearty French Beef (Boeuf) Bourguignon (21 percent) and hummus (21 percent) also featured high on the list of favourite holiday flavours.
