An acclaimed Charleston pitmaster is bringing his famous smoked brisket beyond the Palmetto State. John Lewis, owner of his namesake barbecue emporium, will open a third restaurant this spring. It will be located in Atlanta at Ansley Mall , an open-air institution that dates to the 1960s .
John Lewis Lewis opened the Charleston original in 2016. He serves brisket, house-made beef sausage, smoked turkey and sides like his beloved green chile corn pudding at the 464 N. Nassau St.
counter-serve eatery, which is consistently counted among the best barbecue restaurants in the South. Lewis is also the owner of Rancho Lewis in Charleston, and operates a second Lewis Barbecue location in Greenville. The restaurant, which will feature a smokehouse with custom pits and dining areas indoors and outside, is expected to open in 2025.
