Kohn’s Kosher Deli at 10405 Old Olive Street Road in Creve Coeur has closed “until further notice,” according to its website. A letter posted on the site by Vaad Hoeir of St. Louis , which supervises Kohn’s kosher process, announced the closure.

A call to Kohn’s on Tuesday went unanswered. St. Louis Jewish Light first reported the news.

The letter, dated Monday (July 9), says that Vaad Hoeir “along with the entire kosher community in St. Louis have been distressed at the circumstances that led to the closing of Kohn’s Kosher Meat & Deli last week.” The letter says that “individuals” are working to meet the area’s need for kosher meat and other services, “perhaps by reopening Kohn’s.

” “However, numerous practical and legal issues need to be sorted through by the parties involved,” the letter says. “We are hopeful that we will be able to announce good news early next week.” Rabbi Zvi Zuravin of Vaad Hoeir said via email he could not provide any additional information.

Simon and Bobbie Kohn, Holocaust survivors, founded Kohn’s in 1963. The Kohns’ adult children sold Kohn’s to new owners in 2022. This is a developing news story.
