Ingredients for the Victoria Sponge cake (Image: Express) I hadn't made a Victoria sponge before but, then again, there's a first time for everything – and a sponge is one of the easiest cakes to bake. While I wouldn't know what to put into the sponge cake without having a look at Mary Berry 's recipe , there is one ingredient from her list that I immediately noticed was missing. All the usual baking ingredients were there – eggs, self-raising flour and casting sugar – but there was only a raspberry jam filling and not cream.
