The single father-of-two shared a photo of his modest grocery shop on X, asking how struggling Australians are expected to 'afford to eat' in 2024. The 51-year-old said he's on Jobseeker and looks after his 24-year-old son who has a disability but can barely afford to keep food on the table.
But the unemployed father's aggressive post - which included telling people to 'f**k-off' if they were going to tell him to 'get a job' sparked a fierce debate. Some sympathised with the man and said they have been left with bill shock after an expensive trip through the checkouts. 'Carers pension here.
I shop at ALDI for my food items and cleaning products,' one person said. 'You have meat! I remember that stuff (I'm on Jobseeker instead of DSP). When Jobseeker was doubled for the brief period during Covid, the first thing I bought was a steak,' another said.
