Forget baby showers. Now smart mums-to-be like me demand friends clean the house, build the cot and do the washing up in a ‘nesting party’ By Chloe Hamilton Published: 06:55 EDT, 6 June 2024 | Updated: 06:56 EDT, 6 June 2024 e-mail 4 View comments I was surprised at the speed with which my friend willingly donned a set of rubber gloves and set about doing my washing-up while I sat back and enjoyed a cup of tea, a mini muffin and a bit of peace and quiet. Meanwhile, another friend set to sorting through my piles of baby clothes, before turning her attention to my flat-pack crib.
In my defence, I’m not lazy, I’m pregnant. Thirty-seven weeks pregnant, to be exact, and today is my ‘nesting party’. For those wondering what on earth I’m talking about, a nesting party is a modern alternative to a baby shower that has recently gained popularity on social media.
Chloe, centre, hosts a nesting party in her 37th week of pregnancy, where her friends Lizze, right, and Tasha organise baby clothes and blankets Instead of guessing the baby’s weight and name, or playing nappy-change relay races while drinking cocktails out of baby bottles, guests are put to work to help the mum-to-be make her home baby-ready. Forget balloons, bunting or other such bumph – it’s all about Marigolds, mops and menial chores. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? But, finding it hard to ‘nest’ with a toddler under my feet, I couldn’t deny that a little help would be appreciated.
So I decided to throw.
