Well wishes have poured in for an East Cork restauranteur retiring after decades in the kitchen of a popular Youghal cafe. Chef Jean Francis Bernard handed over the keys to Le Gourmet to its new owners this week as he retires after 20 years. The locally renowned chef shared his thanks to loyal customers as he wished new owners Jason and Robyn the best in their new venture.
The bakery and gourmet deli opened as a family-run foodie haven in 2003, and has become very popular for its catering services and quality treats - from scones to sambos it is has long been one of the town's most well-known shops. Le Gourmet is also a staple at Youghal Front Strand, known for handmade goodies, good coffee, and sweet treats served from The Red Butler food truck down at the beach. Chef JF said it was a "bittersweet" day looking back on memories of the years at Le Gourmet, but said he hopes the bakery business will stay successful for years to come.
