A WOMAN whose mum owns a Chinese restaurant has revealed what crispy seaweed is made of and it's blowing people's minds. She said: "Today we're in my mum's takeaway , and she's gonna show you how easy it is to make crispy seaweed at home." The first step was getting hold of the seaweed and it seems it might be easier to get hold of than you first thought. In fact, the crispy seaweed doesn't even come from the ocean, it comes from the land.
She revealed the classic dish is in fact made with spring greens. "Did you know crispy seaweed is actually made from just cabbage? Literally cabbage," Xiengni said. To do it at home, you need to get some of the leaves and cut them finely into strips, cutting off the stems.
You then want to make sure your pan of oil is extra hot and pop them in for around 30 seconds until they shrivel up and go super crispy.
