Over the years we have all probably seen one of our favourite foodie spots close its doors for one last time. Whether that’s your local pizza go-to or the café you regularly visit for breakfast, unfortunately, there are many reasons why businesses have to shut for good. With this in mind, we asked The Northern Echo readers what restaurants they miss the most that have closed (and there was one place that had a unanimous vote).

” Another added: “The Blue lagoon, went with my lovely sister, sadly no longer with us.” The much-loved Mediterranean restaurant in Darlington closed in 2017, after owners Chris and Peter Kattou announced their retirement - the long-time owners took over from their late father Andreas in 1987. The Blue Lagoon was in business for 56 years after first opening in 1961 and is thought to be among the town's oldest restaurants.
