The city’s largest food festival takes place over five days in March, but organizers pride themselves on offering additional opportunities to interact with Charleston Wine + Food . To that end, the festival has launched a series of summer events that kick off this month. Catering to locals looking for more from the annual festival, the initiative builds on Charleston Wine + Food’s mission to be a year-round presence in the community.
“We’ve been chatting about this since before the (2024) festival,” said Executive Director Alyssa Maute Smith, discussing a return to the monthly events they hosted before the pandemic. “We’ve heard from people who want more than five days in March.” Throughout June, July and August, the nonprofit will host The Sizzle .
The slate of more than a dozen workshops, tastings and signature meals kicks off June 15 with A Juneteenth Spread, which will welcome guests to the festival’s test kitchen (635 Rutledge Ave.) for a class that celebrates the tradition of “hot links and red drinks.” A Croatian wine workshop (June 27), pasta class with Jacques Larson (June 28) and afternoon learning about amaro with bites from chef Michael Toscano (June 29) will round out the month’s agenda.
