Carolina Jewett has fond memories of sampling sandwiches and pastries at bakeries in France and Colombia over the years. Born in Colombia to a French mother and Colombian father who met in Boston, Jewett's upbringing will be displayed through the food, drinks and provisions at a new Charleston café that’s set to open in the next two weeks. Serving baguette sandwiches, pastries, single-origin coffees, wine and other goods, Tínto Café and Provisions will be located at 45 John St., previously occupied by Macaroon Boutique . It’s the second Charleston-area venture for Jewett and her husband, Kevin, who own gelato and coffee shop Tínto y Crema at 6 Vendue Range near Waterfront Park.



That business, once named Belgian Gelato, was inherited from the previous operator. The couple’s second local venture will be a full expression of their passion for coffee and cuisine. “This will reflect more of Carolina’s passion and abilities and what she’s great at,” Kevin Jewett said.

“We’re going to have a lot of options for people.” The couple will have help from a man who’s synonymous with Charleston’s baking community, too. Story continues below David Schnell, who closed his cult favorite Brown’s Court Bakery last November, will work as a consultant at Tínto Café and Provisions.

The extent of that endeavor is still unknown, but the Jewetts hope Schnell will help them craft ciabatta, baguettes, English muffins, cookies and boules w.
