The four Druthers brewpub locations have always shared a menu. What worked for one worked for all. When Druthers opened this location — a stunning, light-filled space — its menu was also Druthers.

It’s been recently rebranded as Lago (Italian for lake), appropriate because it has a kinda-sorta Italian menu. At least compared with the other restaurants. And it’s right on Saratoga Lake.



But first, the gorgeous building by Phinney Design Group in Saratoga Springs: It’s open-space and barn-like, as are the other Druthers I’ve seen, but all the light here comes in from the lake side through gigantic glass garage doors and atrium windows. The reveal is spectacular: You pass through glass double doors and see right through to the lake. The spectacular reveal of Saratoga Lake from the entrance of Lago by Druthers.

A narrow rug draws your eye past the low-light hostess area straight through the dining room, out to the patio and then to the lake and an expanse of sky, which is beautifully framed in that big doorway. So, simple decor, two big rooms. There’s live music Wednesdays and Thursdays; perhaps the band might be on the bar side, which is roomy.

It’s got an airy feel due to the high peaked ceiling with exposed wood beams. I suspect it’s noisy when full, with hard floor, walls and so much glass. We went early enough to miss any crowds.

It wasn’t quite nice enough to dine al fresco, so we opted for a comfortable table by a garage door instead. We could see the pa.
